It's been a long time since I've put together an outfit post. It's been almost four years since my first little blog, It's a Date, and the hours I spent standing in front of walls, running to and from my camera, racing the beep of the timer. I found putting together outfits for my blog a way of pushing my wardrobe and creating new combinations that I loved. So when I first started playing around with this little space, I wanted to include some outfit posts amongst the travel features and political rants, no matter how flimsy and vapid it may seem.
This post is a major form of procrastination. I have an exam in two days and then another one the day after and I am sick of ridiculously long days in the library stressing about Chaucer and Vanessa Place (kudos to anyone other than English students who knows who she is).
Ever since our wardrobe malfunction in Budapest when I realised that I didn't have any summer clothes that I actually liked or felt put together in, I have been wanting to get some key summer pieces for my remaining months in England and my next two trips to Greece and Spain. I decided that, this year, I wouldn't just buy basic Primark tank tops which make me feel kind of sloppy, but spend a little more on some more distinctive and stylised pieces. Shout-out to my student loan.
So as a present to myself for my two consecutive exams last week, I went out and bought three tops and these culottes from Zara. Being 5"2, I worry that anything below my knees makes me look stumpy, but I feel like the perfect fit of these trousers around my waist and the flowy, gorgeous fabric makes my height irrelevant. I tried to match my top and lipstick with the dark red threads in the pattern, keeping the rest of my outfit simple so as not to look to busy.
I really struggle with crop tops as I don't really like my stomach and anything vaguely boxy makes me look frumpy, so the tight fit of this one in combination with the high waist of my culottes stops me feeling self conscious.
Please excuse the hair, I had only just got back from procrasti-sailing, and didn't really have any time to do anything proper with it as I forgot my conditioner and the sea wouldn't wash out properly.
I have no idea whether I'll make outfit posts a regular thing or whether I will just shove one in every now and again if I can force Adam to take photos for me! As you can see, this was a pretty last minute job, taken in my horrendously messy room, complete with pizza boxes (embarrassingly only half due to exams!). So tune in soon for more mediocrity! You never know, maybe I'll have done my washing.
